Black Dawn - Relic Brewing Company

Black Dawn is a 7.2% alc/volume American Stout made by Relic Brewing Company in Plainville, Connecticut. Relic Brewing Company is a small batch, craft brewer that releases many delicious IPA style beers. When I saw this Stout at the local package store I had to give it a try. Winter is a great time to enjoy a soul-warming dark beer. This Black Dawn was roasty with hints of chocolate and coffee.

The Pour

It was a dark beer for sure! The head was not as thick as most stouts that I've come across. It almost looked like a darker Coca-Cola or Root Beer when I poured it into a glass. Upon first taste I noticed it was recognizably thin. The flavor was great but I would have enjoyed it a bit more if it was creamier. It had a strong roast taste with hints of chocolate. The initial burst of flavor was strong but it mellowed out after a few sips. Overall it was a good beer, but not the greatest Stout I've seen around.
