Let's Go Back In Time - Part 7

It's time for another part of my photo series taken at the Astra Museum situated in Sibiu, Romania.

Here you can see two windmills, both made of wood. These were very common but I guess not as efficient as water mills.

Wind is something you can not generate, while water is always available.

The small windmill also made of wood and canvas. The canvas must have been replaced many times. I've never seen such a windmill before but it's kind of cute.

Someone is always watching! Here's the security guard :)

This is a floating water mill that has been posted before. I'm sorry, I don't usually post the same photo twice but this is part of the museum and I think it's important to have it with the others in this post.

This floating water mill must have been a very useful mill back in the day. I did some reading and it turns out these were floating down the river after harvesting time, stopping wherever it was needed.

This is the inside of the mill. The big funnel is made of wood, below you can see a sieve, which was operated manually. So basically the heavy sacs full of grain were lifted, the content loaded into the funnel and then the grain went through the sieve which retained the impurities. Those heavy mill wheels were powered by water.

A close up photo of the outside wheel that was rolled by the water.

This is all for today, stay tuned for the next part if you want to see some really amazing "washing machines" :)
