I'm back with another photo series taken at the Astra Museum situated in Sibiu, Romania. If you missed the first part yesterday, you can check it out here Let's Go Back In Time - Part 1.
I have to start with this cute building. We were wondering what could have been, out best guess was a storage place for the grain.
Another interesting house, covered with straw. I think the roof is made of straw, correct me if I'm wrong, my English is not very good when it comes to these things. It's a small house made of wood and pise.
The furnace was usually in the house to heat the house but here there was one outside. Maybe it was used during summer time.
This is some kind of barn, a storage space for animals, tools, chariots etc.
At the moment of our visit it was used as a workshop. Women in folk costumes are making handmade jewelry made of beads. Unfortunately I don't have a close up photo of the products.
A typical chariot of those days. It's covered to protect the load or the people traveling inside. It's made of wood with hard work. Nomad gypsies were using these chariots for a long time, I still can remember some from my childhood.
In front of the chariot you can see two mill stones used to grind grain. I'm going to show you some old water mills and other mills operated by animals later on in my series.
Another cute house covered with straw. These were homes of very poor people, the whole family was living in one room which served as kitchen and bedroom as well. The concept of living room was unknown for these people, they were out in the fields or woods, working all day.
Look at those tiny windows an the small door. Preserving heat was essential for them, not to mention that the price of glass was maybe too high for them. There was no electricity, petroleum was used for lighting purposes, or candles.
Stay tuned for the next part.
