**A few months ago, when I made the reviews of the games [Astérix (Super Nintendo)]( https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@freddbrito/retro-review-asterix-super-nintendo-eng-esp ) y [Asterix & Obelix (Super Nintendo)]( https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@freddbrito/retro-review-asterix-and-obelix-super-nintendo-eng-esp ), I had left incomplete another review of other games of that saga and the funny thing is that it was exactly that game that made me do the Retro Review of Asterix & Obelix games. But this time instead of being for SNES, it was a videogame developed for GameBoy Advance, a visually quite impressive videogame, since due to the techniques used it makes us believe that it is a title made entirely in 3D, although as always, it has the classic tricks that game developers know how to do to make us believe that. It could be said that this game in particular is one of those that makes the most of the Nintendo handheld console of those times, an interesting platform game that although it has its flaws, especially in the aspect of the isometric camera, in general terms it is a more than entertaining game.**

**In Asterix & Obelix XXL we are faced with the typical story where the hero, in this case the two heroes, must save someone, being that in this game focuses on that after Asterix & Obelix returned to their village they find that in addition to having been destroyed by the Romans, they have also been responsible for kidnapping its inhabitants. So these two protagonists embark on a mission to rescue them, where together with them we will have to go through different very dangerous journeys, traveling from Greece, Egypt and Rome, so they can rescue their friends and also take revenge on the Romans. **What impressed me the most about this game and as I said before, what made me want to play the games of this saga was exactly the graphic aspect of this particular game. Asterix & Obelix XXL (GBA) has an isometric view, something quite particular for a game of this style, but it knew how to take advantage of the graphic qualities of the GBA in such a way that it is a visually impressive game. The design of the characters although they seem to be in 3D is really in 2D, but they used the same technique that was used in the Donkey Kong Country games, the scenarios and if I'm not mistaken if they are in 3D, but it has graphic tricks so that the GBA can make it work without too many problems, although it has its logical graphical problems due to the limitations that the Gameboy Advance had, as we will find the classic "popping" so common in many games with 3D environments of the time, but still is a game that looks pretty good visually.** https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://i.postimg.cc/Mpc6NfYH/Smart-Select-20250803-130729-You-Tube.gif []( https://youtu.be/b0pknb4ghUA?si=3zg3fHEMxVyWFVek )

**It is quite faithful to the visual style of the games I previously reviewed, keeping that cartoon and comic style, with its striking color palette, decorative aspects faithful to the personality and visual identity of the franchise and although its graphic flaws and with regard to the camera, as several times it can become a bit annoying because it can complicate the angle in moments of battle and certain moments where the game slows down, this does not change that it also looks pretty good visually. **Asterix & Obelix XXL (GBA) is a game that stands out more for the action than for the platforms, although logically there are several moments where we must make use of our best jumping skills and agility, but what stands out most in this style is the action, as we will be in constant combat against our enemies the Romans, being able to use both Asterix or Obelix to perform this action. Each of our protagonists will serve to perform some specific action, for example: Asterix being smaller is much more agile, fast and is the specialist, so to speak, to move around the platforms and also because of his agility, his fights are much faster but cause less damage. Obelix on the other hand, logically is slower, his blows cause more damage, but he attacks at a slower speed and due to his great strength is able to move certain large objects that allow us to move to a next stage of the stage or to place an object in such a way that Asterix can use it as a platform to access somewhere. We can switch between characters whenever we want, so we will have to use the right character depending on the situation. **Hace unos pocos meses, cuando hice las reviews de los juegos [Astérix (Super Nintendo)]( https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@freddbrito/retro-review-asterix-super-nintendo-eng-esp ) y [Asterix & Obelix (Super Nintendo)]( https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@freddbrito/retro-review-asterix-and-obelix-super-nintendo-eng-esp ), había dejado incompleta otra review de otros de los juegos de esa saga y lo curioso es que fue exactamente ese videojuego lo que me hizo hacer las Retro Review de los juegos de Astérix & Obélix. Pero esta vez en lugar de ser para SNES, fue un videojuego desarrollado para GameBoy Advance, un videojuego visualmente bastante impresionante, ya que debido a las técnicas utilizadas nos hace creer que es un título hecho enteramente en 3D, aunque como siempre, cuenta con los clásicos trucos que saben hacer los desarrolladores de videojuegos para hacernos creer eso. Se podría decir que este juego en particular es uno de los que saca el mayor provecho a nivel grafico a la consola portátil de Nintendo de aquellos tiempos, un juego de plataforma interesante que aunque tiene sus defectos, especialmente en el aspecto de la cámara isométrica, en términos generales es un juego más que entretenido.**

**En Astérix & Obélix XXL nos encontramos ante la típica historia de donde el héroe, en este caso los dos héroes, deben de salvar a alguien, siendo que en este juego se centra en que luego de que Astérix & Obélix volvieran a su aldea se encuentran que además de haber sido destruida por los romanos, también se han encargado de secuestrar a sus habitantes. Por lo que estos dos protagonistas se embarcan en una misión para rescatarlos, donde junto a ellos deberemos atravesar por distintas travesías muy peligrosas, viajando desde Grecia, Egipto y Roma, de esta forma poder rescatar a sus amigos y de paso también vengarse de los romanos. **Lo que más me impresionó de este juego y como dije anteriormente, lo que me hizo querer jugar a los juegos de esta saga fue exactamente el aspecto gráfico de este juego en particular. Astérix & Obélix XXL (GBA) cuenta con una vista isométrica, algo bastante particular para un juego de este estilo, pero que supo cómo aprovechar las cualidades graficas de la GBA de tal forma que es un juego visualmente impresionante. El diseño de los personajes pese a que parecieran ser en 3D realmente es en 2D, pero utilizaron la misma técnica que se usó en los juegos de Donkey Kong Country, los escenarios y si no me equivoco si son en 3D, pero cuenta con trucos gráficos para que la GBA lo pueda hacer funcionar sin demasiados problemas, aunque cuenta con sus lógicos problemas gráficos debido a la limitaciones con las que contaba la Gameboy Advance, ya que vamos a encontrar el clásico “popping” tan habitual en muchísimos juegos con entornos en 3D de la época, pero aun así es un videojuego que se ve bastante bien visualmente.** https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://i.postimg.cc/Mpc6NfYH/Smart-Select-20250803-130729-You-Tube.gif []( https://youtu.be/b0pknb4ghUA?si=3zg3fHEMxVyWFVek )

**Es bastante fiel al estilo visual de los juegos que anteriormente reseñe, manteniendo ese estilo de caricatura y comics, con su paleta de colores llamativa, aspectos decorativos fieles la personalidad e identidad visual de la franquicia y aunque sus defectos gráficos y en lo que respecta a la cámara, ya que varias veces puede llegar a ser un poco molesta debido a que se puede complicar el Angulo en los momentos de batalla y ciertos momentos donde el juego se ralentiza, esto no cambia que igualmente se vea bastante bien visualmente. A nivel sonoro cumple con su propósito, aunque siento que no llega a destacar demasiado en este aspecto y que le faltaron mejores melodías, y varias de estas se repiten bastante, por lo que este sin dudas no es su mejor aspecto, pero sus efectos de sonido si son buenos y encaja muy bien el sonido que ofrece el juego al momento de golpear a un enemigo, ya que es el típico efecto de sonido de golpe que se escucha en casi cualquier producto de serie animada con toques de comedia.** https://i.postimg.cc/d0HzY5tK/Smart-Select-20250803-133003-You-Tube.gif []( https://youtu.be/b0pknb4ghUA?si=3zg3fHEMxVyWFVek )

**Astérix & Obélix XXL (GBA) es un juego que se destaca más por la acción que por las plataformas, aunque por lógica hay varios momentos donde debemos hacer uso de nuestras mejores habilidades de salto y agilidad, pero lo que más destaca a este estilo es la acción, ya que vamos a estar en constante combate contra nuestros enemigos los romanos, pudiendo utilizar tanto a Astérix o a Obélix para realizar esta acción. Cada uno de nuestros protagonistas servirá para realizar alguna acción en concreto, por ejemplo: Astérix al ser más pequeño es mucho más ágil, rápido y es el especialista, por decirlo de alguna forma, en moverse por las plataformas y además debido a su agilidad, sus combates son mucho más rápidos pero causa menos daño. Obélix por otro lado, lógicamente es más lento, sus golpes causan más daño, pero ataca a menor velocidad y debido a su gran fuerza es capaz de mover ciertos objetos de gran tamaño que nos permiten movernos hacia una siguiente fase del escenario o para situar un objeto de tal forma en la que Astérix pueda utilizarlo como plataforma para acceder a algún lugar. Podemos ir alternando entre los personajes siempre que queramos, de tal forma que tendremos que utilizar al personaje adecuado según la situación.
