Tirry was slightly surprised that Yewan led her to the dark rooftop. It had been dark for several hours already.

She felt the lovely warmth of his hand, still holding hers as they walked to the door of the penthouse apartment. “I promised to show it to you when it was done. Well, I’ve now done all that I can to it by myself,” Yewan said opening the door and turning on the light with a slight wave of a finger. “Come in, please.” He closed the door behind them.

Tirry was blown away at the beauty of the interior. Freshly painted in all the shades of blue and purple which featured in her humble apartment a number of blocks away. “That’s really beautiful!” Tirry said. “It’s all my favorite colors and patterns all together.”

“It was meant to be,” Yewan said softly. “I made sure to include as many of your favorites as I could manage.”

Tirry was silent a few moments. “I am confused,” she finally said. “Why did you go through so much trouble?”

Yewan put his arm around her. “I have often felt your emotional trembles. When you are close to me, your heart’s warmth escapes from you and flows into me. At first, I tried to fight the feelings, it was unprofessional of me, after all. But at last...” He drifted off.

“What are you saying?” Tirry asked, looking into his eyes, so close to hers.

He brushed her lips with his. “That’s what I’m saying,” he replied. “I’m saying that you succeeded.”

When his lips reached for her again, Tirry responded with all of her heart.

Yewan continued “I’m saying that what I shared just now about the two halves of the whole is personally true.. I’m saying that you are my other half, the one I didn’t know I was missing.”

Tirry kissed him again, tears rolling down her cheeks with the sudden happiness.

“Tirry, I’m saying that I want you to live in this beautiful apartment - but not alone anymore. I want you to live here with me,” he said.

Tirry hugged him tightly. She could not speak in fear of crying.

“Well?” he asked her. “Will you be with me? Will you be my other half?”

Tirry looked at him again, tears flowing freely. But she smiled through them. “Yes,” she said. “I accept, most happily.”

His lips merged with hers again with satisfied yearning, and new longings awakening.

“I’m afraid it’s a bit unfurnished at the moment,” Yewan apologized. “There isn’t even a chair or a bed!”

“That’s okay. I have a few things that I can contribute,” Tirry said. “But I think we need to find some ice cream or something – in celebration of us.”

They walked towards the zip-lift.

“I’m afraid that though I can conduct life-bond ceremonies for others, I can’t do one for us. But Saraca, the Terrenden abári, has to come to do my swearing in as abári anyway, so she can wed us then if you like,” Yewan said pressing the button.

Tirry nodded. “I can bear to wait for that because we’re together at last – I’m so happy it’s hard to express it!”

The zip-lift arrived and took them down quickly. Yet in the front lobby, Betel, Tle-sun and Jenna with Arvad all waited.

“You were just going to take off without telling us the good news?” Tle-sun accused.

“Well, you all knew anyway,” Yewan reminded them.

“Keeping my mouth shut while our good abári oozed sappiness all over our living room has been one of the hardest things I’ve done since joining the A’mara!” Jenna said, hugging Tirry.

“Was I really the only one who didn’t know that he loved me?” Tirry asked.

“Maybe,” Yewan admitted. “They had to keep quiet while I finished working on our apartment, Tirry. I wanted it to be a surprise for you.”

“My heart is so full,” Tirry said. “but you don’t need me to say it, do you?”

“I can feel a lot of it,” Yewan agreed. “But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear it too.” He went to kiss her again, she answered in kind.

“Okay, you two just get a room or something,” Tle-sun said wincing in jest.

“You’re the ones who stopped us,” Yewan teased back putting his arm around Tirry and guiding her out the door.

“Alone again,” he said as they reached the walk outside. He stopped and pulled Tirry to him. She met his kiss eagerly, sampling his lips as she did.

“I’ve wanted to do that for awhile now!” she said before kissing him again.

“I’m sorry I made you wait,” he replied. “Lataya scolded me for torturing you, actually.”

“She wanted to tell me, I know that now. But...”

“I’d more or less sworn them to secrecy. I might have been wrong on that one. Will you forgive me?” he asked.

“Of course! All that matters is that we’re together now and I’m so happy!” Tirry said. “I can’t imagine being happier.”

“Me neither,” he said with one more kiss. “Thank you for forgiving me. I was just trying to be an abári first, but apparently, I need to be your partner first.”

They started walking.

“You don’t mind that I’m getting old,” Tirry said as they walked.

“You aren’t older than me!” Yewan replied. “I will be 49 soon. You can’t be older than that!”

“I’ll be 46 in a few weeks. I just thought that…”

“You are worried that you are too old to have a baby?” Yewan asked.

She nodded. “I’d love to have one still, but I know that it gets harder as one gets older.”

“Is there a stella around?” Yewan asked. “We could always ask for advice.”

“Yes. I haven’t seen her in a long time though,” Tirry answered. “I haven’t had much reason...”

“I am happy with you whether we have a baby or not. There are probably red-haired kids in the foster-care system. We could fill our apartment with some of them. Abáris used to be expected to take in some of these children to make sure they had good A’mara training when no one else would help them.”

“I would like that,” Tirry replied.

Yewan put his arm around her.”We are almost at your apartment,” he said.

“You want to come up for a drink of something?” she invited.

“Sounds good,” he replied.

A few minutes later, Tirry opened the door and they went into her apartment.

The door closed and instantly, Tirry found herself engulfed in hungry kisses. Her entire body responded to his advances.

“I know you are meant to be in control of your emotions,” Tirry breathed between kisses.

“You are the only person I have ever met who made me question that,” Yewan replied. “The only person who made my emotions uncontrollable.”

“Mmmm,” Tirry said. “And you’re the only man I’ve ever met who made me want to break all the rules!” Steering him towards the bedroom.

“What kind of abári am I?” he wondered aloud, closing the door behind him, pausing only to disrobe.

“You are simply a very good man. And one who has found his other half,” Tirry replied, her clothes discarded as she resumed kissing Yewan, finally accepting the love of the one she loved beyond all reason.

In the afterglow, Tirry lay snuggled against Yewan, his arm around her. “I guess we’d better get this bed moved tomorrow,” she said.

“Assuming you haven’t changed your mind by then,” Yewan said teasingly into her ear.

“Don’t give me a reason to,” Tirry replied with a giggle. “But I can’t imagine changing my mind.”

A few minutes later, she had fallen asleep in the embrace of her lover.
