After St Louis, we stopped by Meramec Caverns for more exploring. The caverns were located deep in a beautiful part of the woods near Stanton, Missouri
Inside we found:
Cupcakes
"Ghosts" (so many particles, moisture, and spores stirring in the cave it was difficult to take photos with a flash on)
The Virgin Mary
Grapes in the caverns popular "wine room"
A 3 legged creature that is only one of 2 in the world, the other in Sicily
Onyx mountain: the caverns largest stalagmite
The mother in laws tongue: the cavern's biggest stalactite
Underground plants that grow if the lights are kept on too long
An optical illusion... this is a pool of water, but looking down at it in the cavern, it looks like a looking off a cliff
And loads of other awesome, beautiful sights...
At the end of the tour we were guided to "The Greatest Show Under the Earth" in "The Theatre"...
A cavern wall that appeared normal. Then our guide turned the lights on...
And put on a really amazing show with music and video
