Swan Song - Flash Fiction

There was an ambiance of a funeral. Three men and two women gathered around the record player. They were the only ones left who cared.

"Is everyone ready?" one of the men asked. He held the needle in his hand.

Everyone nodded slowly.

The man lowered the needle onto the record player.

There was a crackle. A woman smiled. That sound. Then the record started to play. It was an old song. From the 70s'. But it wasn't the track that was important.

All eyes were on the record as it spun and spun. They took in each note. Embraced it.

The song didn't finish. There was a skip. A cry was heard from the crowd. Then the record went dead.

The man tried to play it again. But the vinyl was too old.

"That's it," he said, as he picked up the record and put in the garbage.

There was a collective sigh. Then each one put on their headphones and went on with their day.
