Those of us who chafe under any tyranny will always be at odds with those of you who merely yearn for a different texture of tyrant. Democracy is just the political manifestation of the bandwagon and false choice fallacies to justify usurpation and trespass. Constitutional republics purport to be something different, but it's really just democracy with extra steps. How can I delegate to some stranger any authority I do not possess myself, whether by ballot or any other process?
"Voting is anything but the peaceful alternative to violence: it is premised on the coercive machinery of the state being employed on your behalf should you prevail in amassing a greater number of people on your side than do others."
― Butler Shaffer
In this 2020 election, I want Trump to lose, but I do not want Biden to win. The problem also runs far deeper than this partisan nonsense, though. Third party candidates like Jo Jorgensen can't fix them even if they were able to win. Y'all are to cowardly to govern yourselves, and demand a government to rule you and your neighbors instead. The neighbors you do not trust to govern you are miraculously wise enough to participate in democracy to rule you, though? That makes no sense whatsoever.
People tell me I need to be willing to compromise my anarchist principles with the demands of society. OK, how about we compromise, and reboot to constitutional strict constructionism? Bring the troops home. Eliminate all of the alphabet soup agencies. Rewrite the entire US code in plain English, and pare it down to a digestible size, because so many laws can only exist to turn innocent people into "criminals."
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
You do not need to remind me of the potential consequences of trying to live free. These are not natural consequences, though, like when one ignores the law of gravity. The laws of men are enforced by men who choose blind obedience. Such consequences are entirely artificial, and have no moral or rational authority in and of themselves. Slaves fled plantations in violation of the law and in the face of dire consequences should they be recaptured. The Underground Railroad that aided them was literally a criminal conspiracy in violation of state and federal law. If that does not condemn the idea that laws and law enforcement are inherently virtuous, I don't know what can.
So, don't vote. Not only is it statistically meaningless, it is participation in an irrational and immoral system that is beyond redemption using its own means. And if you prefer a theological argument, click here.
