Bleak February, the shortest month of the year, yet longest of all.

I have lived my entire life in states bordering Canada. Winters were bitterly cold in the midwest, and while temperatures rarely drop below 0°F (-17.8°C) here in the Pacific Northwest, it does still happen from time to time. What is worse about winters here is the lack of sunshine. It is the season of gray. This year, an early thaw also means brown due to mud.
Everybody is excited about the Super Bowl this afternoon and the looming Valentine's Day celebration, but I just can't shake the lingering malaise. I plan to attend a party with some friends anyway. There's little point in wallowing in self-pity. I do not want to be one of those fake Pollyannas who refuse to acknowledge any negative feelings, though.
What better way to express a mood than through poetry? I don't feel like composing a sonnet to gloom, but a haiku seems fitting. Just remember, February is almost half over, so there are only two more months of it remaining!

The haiku was written by me, so feel free to use it as you wish. Background image by Ina Hoekstra from Pixabay. Created in Canva.
