When I arrived at work today, I walked into a bizarre conversation between my branch manager and a co-worker on the topic of nursing infants. Both are mothers to tweens and teens, several years past dealing with newborns and several years away from being grandmothers, so this was unexpected.

Apparently, their chat started because the district youth services manager had floated the idea of turning our study rooms into nursing bra fitting rooms. I honestly have no idea how this was supposed to be relevant to library functions, and neither did my manager. The obvious questions related to privacy and decorum. Was this part of an outreach effort to new mothers? How would this fit into our space needs, and would it interfere with those who need our study rooms to study? Were librarians supposed to help take measurements? But my warped mind went elsewhere.
"We don't sell bras. Is this a replacement for our book bag fundraiser?"
Both of these ladies burst into very un-librarian laughter, so I doubled down.
"I don't care how much they raise our pay this year, I am not modeling for a library lingerie campaign."
Fortunately, I work with people who take my bizarre sense of humor in stride. It meant a lot of stifled chuckles from all of us all day though.
