Djerdap Gorge, the best possible place to control land and water ways down the Danube. That's why in the ancient times, Romans started building a fortress at this spot of strategic importance. The majority of the fortress, as you can see it today, was built early in the XIV Century.Windmills on the left bank of Danube belong to Romania.
