Being a #iamutopian, I am so thankful to @elear for creating the @utopian-io platform. It is because of the growth of this @Utopian-io platform that I have new ideas to share with all of you.
As my username shows, I came on the Steem blockchain to blog about my travels back in August, 2017. I wanted to share with the world about all the exciting places I have been to and the interesting people I encountered on these trips because of my work.
Soon, my travels took me to the land of Utopian where I started contributing my skills to help this platform grow in October 2017. Soon enough my energy and time were dedicated to this platform and now acting as a Community Manager for the translation category. It has now been 1 1/2 year already. How time flies.
On this @Utopian-io platform, I got to know a lot of fine dedicated people on Steem to make Utopian Open Source Economy come true. We are super excited about the coming launch of Utopian V2 in a few months time.
As a community manager for Translation, I always try to see how to get the translators more engaging in the Utopian-DaVinci initiative.
We have so many great #iamutopian people at @Utopian-io and I often think about what more can we do beyond our categories?
Steem 2019 is a BIG subject on Steem
Lately, there are a lot of talks about Steem and its future. Everyone is concerned and rightly so. I believe we need to put effort into making people more engaging and know that it is worth their time and effort!
Yesterday, I read a post written by @therealwolf which strikes a chord in my heart.
354 days ago, I've officially announced that I'd be a Steem Witness.
Since then, a lot has changed, both for myself - but also in regards of Steem. However, one thing is still the same: my passion and commitment for Steem.
I want to highlight the 2 key words: Passion and Commitment
Passion and Commitment
The reason why we are on Steem 2019: Passion and Commitment.
I believe @therealwolf hit the nail on its head!
1. With passion, we thrive in our vision!
Without passion, there is no enthusiasm, no fire, no creativity and no vision.
What @Utopian-io taught me in the last year and a half is that one neesd to have passion for our vision!
Contrary to what most people think, money is not the driving force although money plays an important role in our lives. The main incentive must be within us: Passion.
Passion is what keeps the visionary driving and moving forward. When the fire is not there, all projects die. In the end, it goes to the grave to be buried.
Passion is what I saw in @elear & in my Utopian colleagues. They are those who are committed to see the vision come to fruition.
2. Passion must be followed with commitment
We are not dreamers but visionaries with commitment to follow through the steps to make the vision come alive.
I also see many uncommitted people who don't succeed in anything as they are always folding their hands watching other people to do the work.
New Initiative - Be a Mentor to Newbies
I ask myself: What can I contribute to make Steem 2019 great?
Don't ask: What can Steem do for me?
Instead ask: What can I do for Steem 2019?
Having been on this Steem Blockchain for 1 1/2 year, I see a lot of potential here and I have been playing around with the idea of setting up some kind of Mentorship Program for newbies.
Why?
In the past year, we have seen a lot of new development and launching of dApps. Some new dApps are soon coming up in the horizon. There are at least 50 dApps now.
My colleague @mcfarhat, the founder of @actifit is actively onboarding new people onto Steem via the @actifit app. Also @Partiko is actively bringing in new people onto the Steem blockchain via the Partiko app. With @dcommerce emerging, more and more people will be coming on Steem.
I thought to myself: It is great to get new people on board to Steem but how do we 'keep' these people to stay on?'
We have seen many newcomers falling by the wayside not because they do not have passion & commitment, but they soon get lost in this Steem blockchain maze.
I have an Idea!
What if we have Mentors helping newbies who come on board?
This is how I came up with this "Be A Mentor" Initiative!
Be A Mentor - A Service to Newbies
I remember when I first came on Steem, I was so lost in the blockchain. I had to find out everything by trial and error. I thought to myself: "It would be so good if there were a mentor to guide me in the beginning."
Do you remember a teacher, a coach or a mentor who said or did something that empowered your life? This is your chance to do that for someone else on Steem via the 'Be A Mentor' program.
A hand of friendship goes a long way for newcomers! If someone can take them by the hand and guide them in the beginning, they will not lose interest so quickly and can eventually find their path of success easier because of you.
In 2019, I am going to devote my time to serve all the Steemians, whether old or new, to create a homey atmosphere on Steem where we all become more engaged and excited to help each other to succeed together. This is certainly possible! I will "mentor" the "mentors", so that together we are going to guide "newcomers" to succeed in using the Open Source dApps that are on the Steem Blockchain.
The entire program is fun and flexible. The newbies are not stuck with just one mentor. But they will follow one mentor at a time in the span of a month and that's why I call it a Mentor Monthly program.
I will be slowly pushing this Mentor Program forward to help promote different dApps that are now on the Steem Blockchain. In my time, I have helped so many Steemians just by giving them little hints and tips about a project, and I find that if I can gather groups and groups of mentors, the job will get done much faster for the newbies to succeed.
There are now more than 50 dApps created in the past year. The ecosystem of Steem is just so huge and more and more are coming out each month. All of this is working towards the good of Steem. The open source dApps that have become powerful and popular are: @utopian, @steemhunt, @actifit, @steempress, @esteem, @busy, @steemauto, @steempeak, @minnowbooster, @dpoll, @fundition, @dtube, @travelfeed . . . etc. There are more new ones that are coming up on the horizon.
As more and more new people come on board everyday, let's quickly give them a hand to start using a few of these dApps effectively. The entire atmosphere of the blockchain will become a lot more engaging and responsive because of the personal touch of these mentors coming on board!
What about recruiting Utopian Mentors?
Some of us have been in Utopian from the beginning. We know the ins and outs of the functioning of the platform.
What if we go out and gather the newbies who come into Utopian and mentor them for 2 to 4 weeks? I believe a month's time will be enough to guide newbies to get comfortable and find their path of success.
Sometimes just reading about the site and not understanding the dynamics of it is not enough for a fresh newbie coming in. Even though there are FAQ and discord channels, they also get lost easily.
If we can get a mentor to take a potential newbie by the hand and coach the person just for that beginning 2 weeks, it will make a big difference for him. I have worked in entrepreneur business and know how important it is to guide clients along in their first couple of weeks to our platforms. Afterwards, they will just sail along on their own with their own skills and initiatives.
What if we can recruit mentors to do this beginning work for all the newcomers that will be crashing into the Steem blockchain?
The atmosphere of the blockchain will change.
It will not be a cold detached place for the newbies.
They will soon find their 'home'in the different dApps that are working powerfully on the site.
Mentorship - A Service to the Newbies
I am playing around with this idea and want to hear your comments and responses.
Since many of us on the Utopian platform are #iamutopian, I always have the #iamutopian people in mind first to help grow their projects.
What if we recruit some @actifit mentors?
My other colleague @knowledges is launching the @Knacksteem platform soon. What if there are early mentors to get the newbies succeeding in the beginning right at the start?
I believe the #iamutopian managers are quite unique in their own rights. They always hold a special place in my heart because of the long relationship of working together.
You can tell I am playing around with ideas to help their platform grow too.
So if there are other ideas that #iamutopian people can come up with to make the Steem 2019 platform great, I am all ears.
Please give me your feedback and comments below as to how we can develop this idea further,
Rosa
