Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Deathwatch, Corvus Blackstar
10th Edition Index
A Vehicle of unique and peculiar design perfectly suited to the alien-hunting unique hero army of the Deathwatch.
The Corvus Blackstar is an Aircraft, a Transport, a Gunship and a Bomber all rolled into one.
It costs 180pts to field and will cost you around $92 USD to buy a new one from warhammer.com.
Let's check the stats!
Stats
Movement 20+"
Toughness 10
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 14
Ld 6+
OC 0
Fair stats for a medium tank.
Weapons
Ranged:
The Corvus comes standard with a Twin Assault Cannon, which it can swap for a Twin Lascannon
Twin Assault Cannon
24" Range, 6 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S6, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Devastating Wounds, Twin-linked
This means 6's to Wound cause wounds that cannot be blocked by armor or invulnerable saves. Also, this gun can re-roll Wounds, so it can fish for some extra 6s.
Its alternative:
Twin Lascannon
48" Range, 1 Shot, 3+ to Hit, S12, AP-3 and D6+1 Damage each.
Twin-linked
This is an obvious anti-tank/monster gun, also capable to re-rolling the to Wound roll.
The Corvus also comes with 2 Blackstar rocket launchers which it can exchange for 2 Stormstrike missile launchers
Blackstar Rocket Launcher (x2)
30" Range, D6+1 Shots, S5 AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Blast
A great weapon for slaying hordes.
Its alternative:
Stormstrike Missile Launcher (x2)
48" Range, 1 Shot, S10 AP-2 and 3 Damage each.
This is good anti-medium tank and anti-monster.
The Corvus can also be equipped with a Hurricane Bolter
Hurricane Bolter
24" Range, 6 Shots, S4 AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Rapid Fire 6, Twin-Linked
This means 12 shots at 12" Range!
Melee:
Armoured Hull
3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S6, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Abilities
Stealth, Hover
Blackstar Cluster Launcher
After making a regular move, choose one target the Corvus moved over this turn, the Corvus drops bombs on them. Roll 6 Dice, for every 5+ the enemy unit suffers that many Mortal Wounds
Wargear Abilities
You need to choose between either a Auspex Array or a Infernum Halo-Launcher.
The Auspex gives the Corvus Ignore Cover on Ranged weapons. the Halo-Launcher gives the Corvus the Smoke keyword.
One is offensive, the other is defensive
Transport
The Corvus can transport up to 12 models.
Jump Packs, Terminators and Gravis count as 2 models.
Centurions and Mounted units (bikes) count as 3 models.
Thoughts
It can deal a fair bit of damage, it is very fast and it can carry troops while doing so. I have one of these and I have used it in our largest to date Eternal Carnage games. So far, it is a good transport even though most people do not field Aircraft.
That is 2 Deathwatch Datasheets reviewed putting them on 18.18% Completed and the total Completed on 7.20% Complete!
Thank you for reading!
