Bad Beer, Good Beer

Is there really such a thing as a truly bad beer? Yes. Yes, there definitely is. But are either of these really bad? Maybe not, but one is definitely a lot more to my liking.

Full disclosure: I am going through some cans to crush for recycling, and I have not had either of these recently. My last beer was some homebrew made by @generikat's husband. Good stuff. If you ever visit the farm, be nice to T. and he may offer you a cold one instead of hot lead. Maybe.

But back to these cans. I know some people who sing the praises of Stella Artois. They seem unsure how to say it even when sober. "Ar-TWAH?" Hell if I know, and hell if I care. This was bland. Not in an inoffensively refreshing way, in an insult to my palate way. Is this Europe's answer to Anheuser-Busch's "Budweiser?" I think I'd take a Miller Lite over that stuff, because at least the Miller isn't putting on airs.

That Firestone Mind Haze is another matter. 6.2% ABV is a bit more than most, but it isn't overly strong. The hops are fairly subdued for an IPA, but it's just plain satisfying. I endorse this product with my AAA (Amateurishly Approved Alcohol) rating.

I find myself disliking this time of year. It is cold, and I hurt. We set the clocks back so it seems like it gets dark right after lunch. Election bullshit swamps everything.

And it's my birthday right about now, give or take. And Facebook makes me sad by reminding me of birthday wishes from internet friends who are dead.

It's almost rough enough to drive me to drink right now.

I jest.

But I still kinda want a beer.
