Battle of Rainmakers

Two weeks before the date Richard and Cara fixed for their wedding day, Kwaku, a rainmaker in the village, approached them for "settlement" in order for him to prevent rainfall that day.

Richard, being a Christian, wanted to chase him out of his house, but Cara calmed him down and persuaded him to give in to Kwaku's demand because she knows what rainmakers are capable of doing if they're not settled. Richard concurred and gave Kwaku $55 for the job.

As the day passed by, they kept footing bills from every corner towards the wedding day, even the things they hadn't budgeted for kept popping out... from one settlement to another.

On the Tuesday of the wedding's week, another set of rainmakers, Udeze and Iloh, approached Richard for their settlement in order to seize rain that day. Richard became confused after hearing that: "What do you mean by settlement? I settled one of your colleagues a week ago," Richard said to them.

"Ummmmm, that might be true, but that's for him and we are here for ours, or don't you know that a lot of rainmakers must be settled?" Iloh replied to him as he spoke on behalf of his colleague.

Richard got angry and chased them out of his house. They threatened him with drawing rain that day to scatter the event, but Richard didn't give a damn. Cara was there and tried to plead so that Richard would settle the two rainmakers, but no way, Richard was fused up already.

Even when they left, she tried all possible means to talk Richard into settling them, but it didn't work. She began to imagine how the wedding day would be if, peradventure, the two rainmakers happened to pull down the rain: "My day will surely be ruined💔."

A day before the wedding day, which was Friday, Cara went to meet Kwaku, the earlier-settled rainmaker, to let him know the potential battle he'd face on the wedding day. She pleaded with Kwaku to be up and doing in case the other two rainmakers send rain to destroy the event. Kwaku assured her that nothing would happen.

On the morning of the wedding day, Cara came out of the house to see the beautiful sunrise and the glowing weather. She smiled and thanked God for the weather because it seemed the greater God was already in charge.
Even the event planners were so happy about the beautiful weather because their canopies and decoration materials will be safe unlike the days of bad weather.

The reception party got delayed a little bit due to the long church wedding program, so it started around 3:00 p.m., and immediately after the couples danced into the event, the weather changed completely. The sky got covered with dark clouds, and a heavy breeze started to blow in.
Everything was looking like a dream to the couples, and before they knew it, heavy wind took off two canopies and landed them on top of one of the houses within the venue.

Alarm got raised, and all the invitees began to run helter-skelter. It wasn't raining, but the breeze was just too much, with plastic chairs and canopies flying through the air. At this time, the couples don't know what to do because their day has been ruined already.

Cara picked up her phone and called Kwaku to know why he didn't do his job, and Kwaku answered, "The reason it hasn't rained yet is because I'm having a spiritual fight with the two rainmakers that you refused to settle; their powers are stronger than I thought. The heavy wind is as a result of my power holding the rain."

"Kwaku, let it rain! "Please let it rain!"
"It's better it's raining than this destruction we are witnessing here." Cara said at the top of her voice and with tears in her eyes.

Kwaku was not moved at all by Cara's shout; he told her that he doesn't want to lose the fight, hence he'll keep holding the rain till the other two rainmakers give up.

After Cara dropped the call, she searched for where her husband was, and she saw him helping to hold the pillars of the only standing canopy in order to not be carried away. She approached him with teary eyes and poured all the blame on him for not settling the other two rainmakers.

That was the moment it occurred to Richard that what's happening was indeed the handiwork of the two rainmakers he refused to settle with.
He got mad and wanted to go after the two rainmakers, but it was already late.
So he waited until the next day and used police to arrest them.
The case got the attention of the communities, and Richard was blamed for not settling them when they requested for payment earlier. They told Richard that it's the right of rainmakers to get paid whenever there's a party in the community, and he messed up by refusing to settle them.

Richard became amazed at how blindfolded the community is: "You mean your community allows all manners of extortion, or isn't this extortion?"

The damage has been done; there's nothing he could do, not even a demand for damage fee. He left everything and took his wife to the city the next day.
