"Don't let me go", the girl screamed, her amulet glowing in the dark.
I held on or at least I tried to. She kept on slipping until....

I sighed as I opened my eyes. Another day to exist in this "wonderful" world. Yes, I air quoted the wonderful and can someone please tell me why I have been dreaming about the same girl and elephants for the last five days?
"Dylan!!!!!!. You are going to be late", my little sister screamed from downstairs.
Can I just say something?
I really don't care, I'll say it anyway. Sisters are the worst.
I showered quickly, grabbed my things and headed downstairs.
My parents were already there making googly eyes at each other.

My sister smiled at me and I knew I was definitely going to find something icky in my bag.
Again, the absolute worst
I said a quick Good morning to my parents, not like they saw me, grabbed an apple and headed out.
School was a ten minutes walk, so I started my journey.
I saw it before it hit me, a white bright light that came out from nowhere, sending me flying on my back before everything went black.
I opened my eyes, my head pounded like someone had hit it severally with a jack hammer.
"You've been out for a while, welcome back".
Yes I was definitely hallucinating because a tree didn't just talk to me.
I pinched myself.
"Are you alright. You look a little bit out of it".
Definitely not hallucinating, so I did the next reasonable thing, I screamed.
I started running but then the tree extended it's branch, grabbing me and holding me in place.
"Do not be scared my friend".
Friend?
I knew I had zero friends but I wasn't desperate enough to be friends with a tree.
"We have been waiting for you for a very long time. The noble hero who would rescue the elephant princess and restore balance to our world".
I laughed, because it was very funny.
Me, a hero?. I didn't think so.
The tree continued, "The council of elders has been searching for someone worthy and they finally found you. They have been trying to communicate with you in your dream".
The girl
"Look around, this place used to be beautiful. Everyone existed in peace under the reign of the elephant princess, with her amulet, she controlled the elephants and they protected everyone but a member of the council of elders got greedy and he wanted the power and elephants for himself. So he stole the amulet, corrupted it, trapped the princess and now everything in the world is tainted. We thought all hope was lost, until the elders found you".
"Me?. I'm only seventeen. I'm not going to go and battle some old dude for a necklace to save some chick that I don't even know", I finished trying to catch my breath.
"But you were chosen", the tree said to me.
"I don't care!!!. Tell your elders to choose someone else", I replied already walking away.
"You are more than what you let everyone else see Dylan".
I turned around. They had all gathered, animals, trees, plants, tiny creatures that I didn't know what to call and they all looked at me with hopelessness.
Don't do it
This was definitely one of those times I should have listened to the voice in my head but instead I found myself asking, "What do I need to do?".
The tree guilded me to the council of elders and I was told what to do.
It was easy really, all I needed to do was steal the amulet, free the elephant princess, give her the amulet and everything would be right again.
So easy
The oldest elder handed me a map and I asked, "Why did you choose me?"
He smiled, "Because no matter how many times you get pushed down, you always get back up and this", He touched my heart, "Is made of gold".
I got to the entrance of the tower.
It was guarded by a line of angry looking elephants. I was definitely not getting in through that path.

I had to free the princess first. I thought it would be more guarded, lucky me I guess.
"You're here", the beautiful girl smiled at me from behind the cell.
"You are the girl from my dream".
Real smooth genius.
I unlocked the cell with the key I found. This guy really needed to up his security game.
Together we made our way to the elder. It wasn't easy.
I managed to get the amulet. One of the perks of being invisible in real life. Just as I threw the amulet to her, the elder blasted me with a bright light and everything went black.
I opened my eyes and I was laying on the floor just outside my school.
"Are you going to lie down there all day or are you going to get to class?".
I looked up to see Mr Davis glaring at me. I gathered myself and went into the building. I had barely taken my sit when I heard my teacher said, "I'd like you all to welcome our new student".
I turned my head around and she was smiling at me.
She headed right for me, "You left without saying goodbye".
I blinked before recovering, "Did you?"
"Yes, you threw the amulet just in time. Everything has been restored and the elephants guard our realm again. The realm owes you".
I shrugged, "It was nothing*

We sat down, "I'm Annalise by the way".
"Dylan".

I smiled. My first friend that was not a tree.
