As a wise man once said, “Everything dies.” However, a sad truth is that when a species dies, they’re gone for good. Join us as we take a look at some of the animals on Earth that are dangerously close to extinction. 1. Northern White Rhino There might not be a better place to start than with this animal right here, the Northern White Rhino. Why do we say that? 2. Sumatran Rhino Sticking with the rhino family, you might be surprised to hear that some rhinos live in Asia, and one of them, in particular, is dangerously close to extinction as well. 3. Pika If you’re like us, you probably have never heard of the Pika until right now. There’s a good reason for that, the Pika is native to China, and only in a very specific region via the Xinjiang area. 4. Giant Otter When you think of an otter, you like to think of a small creature that roams around the water areas near you. But what if those otters were six feet long? 5. Hawksbill Turtle Heading under the sea, life under the ocean isn’t exempt from dying out, and in fact, you could argue that they’re even more affected by man’s creations than the land mammals. A good case for this argument is the Hawksbill Turtle. 6. Malayan Tiger You might think that only certain types of animals are hunted or poached. What’s more, you might think that certain “tops of the food chain” are exempt from such things as being wiped out. 7. Saola The world is a wonderful place, but it’s also a mysterious one. Despite man going to all corners of the world, they haven’t explored every inch of it just yet. 8. Mountain Gorilla Another example of larger creatures not being exempt from the threat of extinction, the Mountain Gorilla is actually a subspecies of another gorilla, and they live specifically in a mountain range that borders Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. 9. Vaquita There is such a thing as a “terrible title to have”, and for the Vaquita, it holds the unfortunate title of “World’s Rarest Marine Animal”. We say that because there are less than 60 of these porpoises left in the world, making it not only on the edge of extinction but something that is very hard to help due to the low numbers. 10. White Rumped Vulture Ending with an eye in the sky, there are actually many different kinds of bird species that are near extinction. However, we mention the White-Rumped Vulture for a very specific reason.
